History's Treasure

This website will focus on two subjects:  history and treasure. The two subjects are closely related.  History itself is a treasure-- something of great value. There will be information about America's wars, from the Revolution to the Gulf War. There will be stories about ordinary people, sometimes doing ordinary things. The stories will tell us something about how people lived in the past. There will be stories and articles and links about Treasure Hunting as a hobby. And there will be information about other things that I find interesting!

The Great Locomotive Chase through Georgia

During the Civil War, twenty union volunteers  infiltrated  southern territory, with the intent of stealing a train. They planned to burn the railroad bridges between Atlanta and Chattanooga, thus cutting off the supply line for the Rebel Army. The movie "The Great Locomotive Chase" was based on this incident. This account was written by one of the yankees who participated in the action.

Great Smoky Mountains Photos

I live near the Great Smoky Mountains and enjoy hiking and photographing there.
This Website has some of my own photographs, and links to some of the outstanding  nature photographers who work in this area.

Cades Cove Bibles

Cades Cove is an isolated valley in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, once the home of a thriving community. Several pioneer cabins and 3 pioneer churches remain.  Visitors are leaving bibles in the churches as memorials to loved ones and as a way for other visitors to request prayer for special needs.
